Dr. Jacob Shelby Craig III, passed in peace on May 2, 2019 at the age of 87. He was residing in Vero Beach, FL. Jacob was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on April 22, 1932 to Jacob Shelby Craig, II and Victoria Sensibaugh. He lived in Little Rock for one year before growing up in North Garden, near Charlottesville, VA on a farm with his father. Jacob enlisted and served as a Combat Medical Corpsman during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge from the U. S. Navy at age 25 he returned to focus on his education. He earned his Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology from Tennessee Christian University, and was awarded an honorary doctorate in Psychology. His love of music and reading was apparent to all who knew him. He was especially fond of Wagnerian opera and enjoyed listening to classical and baroque music for hours.

Jacob was a life member and active in the Sons of American Revolution. (SAR) serving in various offices of the David C. Payne Camp and in Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) in Blairsville, GA. His love of his country was strong and informed. He took his family on numerous road trips to admire certain historical patriotic landmarks and instilled in his children a love of country and civic duty. He was a passionate patriot who flew the American Flag alongside the Scottish Saint Andrews Cross. He has a strong faith in God, and loved God with all his heart and all his mind, practicing his faith daily in scripture and prayer and teaching his children to do the same. He served in many churches as a leader and on mission trips as a Gideon and a volunteer. His lifelong passion of sailing took him all over the Caribbean and South America. Jacob had a deep lover of his Scottish heritage and instilled an abiding family pride in his children and grandchildren. His children and grandchildren recall countless Scottish Festivals being the highlight of their growing up years. He was well traveled but only a few places were near and dear to his heart. Scotland, The Bahamas, and Blairsville, GA. were especially dear to him, the memories made there even more so.

He was a educated gentleman, historian and scholar whose life cannot be summed in the confines of an obituary, Jacob was loved dearly by many. His strength and passion for life live on in his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He will be buried in a private family service next to his mother at Choestoe Baptist Church.
