David lived in Winterset since 1990, previously living in Woodward where he farmed. David was also an auctioneer, graduating from Kansas City Auction School and was most recently the golf course superintendent at Lakeview Winterset Country Club.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and enjoyed spending time hunting, fishing and golfing.
David is survived by his wife, Nancy of Winterset; two daughters, Valerie Petersen (Clark) of Manhattan, KS and Leslie Boettcher (Bill) of Ankeny; one sister, Linda Topp (Neal) of Omaha, NE; five grandchildren, Jacob Petersen (fiancée, Julia Brown), Chelsea Petersen (fiancée, Tyler Manwarren), Chase Petersen, William Boettcher, and Joseph Boettcher; and one great grandchild, Tayden Manwarren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Dwayne Applegate and a sister, Elaine Noland.
