Rachel Robertson Lowe, age 88, of Columbus, MS, passed away May 20, 2019, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 25, 2019, at 11:00 AM at Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel, 2nd Ave. location. The interment will immediately follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home.On May 20, 2019, Rachel Lowe completed a life of caring for others. That caring was woven into her very soul with such strength and compassion that she uplifted everyone that was part of her 88-year life. She encouraged all that were around her through kind words, a pat on the hand or a hug. Whether they be old or new friends, each person that was a part of her day was better after seeing her.

She married her "Bo", Raymond Lowe, in 1949 and continued to love and care for him through her life like the first day they met. She lived in several countries as part of a military family with him and never allowed a language barrier stop her love for others. She was married to Raymond Lowe for one month shy of 70 years and they had three children, Ralph, Marsha and Janet.

As an active Sunday School teacher, Rachel spent countless hours preparing for her children's classes by cutting and arranging a flannelgraph board of Bible stories. Her eyes would jump with excitement when sharing how the stories came alive for those in her care. Years of Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teaching allowed her to impact the lives of hundreds of children that are now adults. Many of those in her class arrived on buses and Rachel would always have food and an extra hug for those special students.
With three children, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, Miss Rachel was proud of those in her family. She attended untold numbers of plays, recitals, athletic events and the like; always cheering; always encouraging and always building up others; no matter what the score.

Her love of preparing perfect family meals led to the Christmas preparation of one chocolate meringue pie four times until it was right in her eyes. (Of course, all four were great and eaten.)

She loved family meals, but rarely ate at any of them. Instead, she made constant rounds tending to everyone in attendance to make sure everything was the best it could be. It was not uncommon to have multiple variations of the same dish prepared to suit everyone's taste. Her delight came helping others to be happy and joyful; no matter what the situation.

Words fail to explain how this Godly woman turned Biblical teachings into real-life acts of love to those she saw each day.

Part of her lives within us that were blessed to call her Wife, Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, Aunt Rachel or just a friend. We are certain that she is spending her first days in heaven asking others to "...tell me about your family."

She survived by her husband Raymond Lowe of Columbus, three children, Ralph Lowe (Sandy), Marsha Burns (Dewayne), Janet Dillon (Joe). Her grandchildren are Jeremy Burns (Erin), Jessica Long (Reed), Jonathan Burns (Jessica), Cassie Griffin (Gray) and Rebecca Lunceford (Will). Her great-grandchildren are Leslie Burns, Nathan Burns, Caitlyn Long, Tyler Long, Holden Burns, Briley Kate Burns and River Griffin.

She was preceded in death by her parents Zeno and Gay Robertson of Columbia, Mississippi and her sisters Charlene and Virginia.

A memorial service will be held at Memorial Funeral Home at 716 2nd Avenue North on Saturday May 25, 2019 at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m.

Pallbearers are Jeremy Burns, Jonathan Burns, Nathan Burns, Reed Long, Gray Griffin and Will Lunceford.
