Mavis was born March 31, 1928, on a farm in Waverly Township, Martin County, Minn., the daughter of Ole and Oranda (Peterson) Johnson. She was baptized and confirmed at Waverly Lutheran Church. Mavis attended country school #122 and later, Truman High School, where she graduated in 1946.
After high school, Mavis worked for REA in St. James. In 1960, she began a long career as a bookkeeper for the Fairmont Sentinel, retiring in 1994.
Mavis was kind and loving with a heart of gold. She was a humble, selfless person with an ability to listen deeply to others. Mavis enjoyed spending time with family and celebrating their successes.
She was a member of Waverly Lutheran Church, serving many years as a Sunday School teacher for 3-year-olds. She was a faithful, strong Christian whose faith influenced others.
Mavis is survived by nephews, Richard Johnson of Rolling Hills Estates, Calif., and Steven Graham (Vanessa) of Truman, Minn.; nieces, Denise Johnson of Homeland, Calif., and Velda Graham Bell (Geoffrey) of Duluth, Minn.; great-nephew, Nicholas Graham of Rolfe, Iowa; great-nieces, Danielle (Jeffrey) Howell of Queen Creek, Ariz., Jennifer Graham of Ringsted, Iowa; as well as cousins and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Leland Johnson; sister, Dorothy (Johnson) Graham; and nephew, Brett Graham.
