Mrs. Mary Ann Bean, mother of Miss Laura Bean of Strawberry Valley and Mrs. Amanda Vestal of Richmond; Lincoln, John and Morgan Bean, all of Strawberry Valley, Vernon Bean of Napa, sister of David Lewis of Oakland; a native of Wales, aged 97 years.

The June 21, 1900 Census entry for Mary Bean lists her living with her husband Joel Bean and 5 of their children in Sears Township, Sierra County, California. It also lists her as having borne 8 children, 6 of which were still alive at that time. The 6th child, their oldest son, Abraham Lincoln Bean, is listed on that same Census page just above the Joel Bean family with his wife and their 2 children, but under the name Archer L Bean. Joel and Mary's daughter Ella had died in 1890, and since 6 were still living, that accounts for 7 of the 8.
