Of Needham, Jan. 31. Beloved husband of Mary M. (Morrissey) Hawes for 64 years. Devoted father of Robert E. Hawes, Jr. of Charleston, SC, Mary Hawes Mahoney of Sudbury, Barbara A. Hawes of Long Lake, NY, Philip C. Hawes of Potomac, MD, Richard S. Hawes of Chatham, NY and the late Thomas R. Hawes. Also survived by 12 grandchildren and 1 great grandson. Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 1305 Highland Ave., (Exit 19B off Exit 128), NEEDHAM Saturday at 9 AM. Funeral Mass in St. Joseph's Church, Needham at 10 AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Friday 4-8 PM. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery, Needham. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Colonel Robert E. Hawes Donation Fund, Brighton Marine Health Center, 77 Warren St., Brighton, MA 02135. Retired Senior Executive for PPG Industries, responsible for all operations in New England, retired after 39 years of service. W.W. II Veteran of the invasion of Normandy and victory in Europe. Retired Colonel in the U.S. Army, with 30 years of active duty and reserve service. Chairman of the Needham Park & Recreation Commission; Needham town meeting member; Sports Columnist for the Needham Times; Founding Chairman of the Brighton Marine Health Center in Brighton, which provides health services to over 11,000 retired and disabled service veterans and their families, served for 25 years as an unpaid Chief Executive Officer; Trustee of Caritas St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Active member of many Army associations, the Rotary Club, the Kiwanis Club and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus.
