In 1951 William's family relocated from Forest, MS to Joliet, IL. He was raised and educated in Joliet, Illinois; attending Forest Park Grade School, Gompers Jr. High School and Joliet Central High School.
He was employed at Caterpillar Tractor Company and retired after thirty five years. William always enjoyed working on cars. He often could be found under the hood of a car and created his own side business as a mechanic. He also enjoyed playing basketball, pool, tennis, bowling and weight lifting.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle Yvette Garner; his parents; grandparents, Horace and Mary Alexander; two brothers, Claiborne Alexander and Eugene Alexander; and his second wife, Beverly Foster.
William is survived by his wife, Rose Verrett-Alexander of Joliet, IL; his two daughters, Yolanda M. Alexander and LaCresha L. Alexander of Joliet, IL; two grandchildren, Alexis M. Short and Christian W. Alexander of Joliet, IL; four brothers, Randy (Linda) Alexander of Erie, PA, Tony (Priscilla) Alexander of Akron, OH, Greg Alexander of Pittsburgh, CA, Dwight (Anita) Alexander of Little Rock, AR; one sister, Celia Alexander of Pittsburgh, CA; two step-brothers, Michael T. (Detra) Alexander of Joliet, IL and Rodney D. Alexander of Sacramento, A; special friends, Roscoe Summers, Ray Wright and Oscar Pope; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at Prayer Tower Ministries G.O.G.I.C., 500 Stryker Ave., Joliet, IL. Pastor Warren C. Dorris officiating.
