Nathan Hopkins, age 90, passed away peacefully Friday, May 17, 2019 at the Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion.

Nathan was born in Smyth County, VA on December 23, 1928 to the late Paul Hopkins and Susie Heffinger Hopkins and was preceded in death by his wife Mary Jane Hopkins; son and daughter-in-law Larry and Kathy Hopkins; two brothers Charles Hopkins and Glen Hopkins; and sister-in-law Betty Hopkins.

Nathan loved hunting, fishing, NASCAR and pitching horseshoes. He was an avid Ford fan to the very end. He spent many years at the local race and go-cart tracks helping fellow racers.

He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Russell and husband Danny; grandchildren, Gavin Russell and wife Leanna Blevins, Darin Russell and wife Kelli, Kim Beliveau and husband Tyler, Dana Russell and husband Bart Hutton, and Cassie Houchens and husband Andre; ten great-grandchildren; sisters, Jean White and Faye Wright and husband Wayne; sister-in-law, Shelby Hopkins; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Lawrence Holman.

The family will receive friends on Monday May 20, 2019 at the Lowman Valley Church Fellowship Hall from 1:30 – 2:30 PM followed by a graveside services at 3PM with Pastor Michael Hopkins officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Lowman Valley Church. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.bradleysfh.com. Bradley’s Funeral Home is serving the Hopkins family.
