Frank was the son of Frank Julius Austin native of Illinois, and Matie, native of Wisconsin. Matie second married to Lorenzo D Sadler on 20 March 1898, in Tacoma, Washington. (It is thought that her first husband, Frank Austin, died on October 14, 1895, at the county hospital in King County, Washington.) Ernest Sadler, who was the son of Matie and Lorenzo, informed the death certificate for Frank.

Frank was first married to Helen M, and they had one daughter, Frances M, who was born to the couple in San Francisco, 22 October 1905. Frances married James Edward Regan.

Frank second married Susan "Susie" L Finley on 12 Jun 1920, in Los Angeles.
