Sarah Allen Lea, 88, of 1086 Snipes Road, Hurdle Mills, died Friday, May 17, 2019 at her home. Born in Person County, she was the daughter of the late Ira G. Allen and Joey Broach Allen. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert M. Lea, Sr. and six siblings. Mrs. Lea graduated from Watts School of Nursing in 1951. She retired after 44 years as a registered nurse. Mrs. Lea was a member of Salem United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her three children: Joanna Lea (Kaye), Susan Hester (Donald) and Bert Lea, Jr. (Janet), all of Hurdle Mills; one sister, Rachel Martin of Hurdle Mills; four grandchildren: Anna Hester Martin (Sam), Meredith Lea Harris (John Price), Leah Hester Clayton (Brandon) and Maddie Lea; five great-grandchildren: Leah Stedman Martin, Lucas, Anniston, and Caroline Clayton and Ellie Harris.
Visitation will be held from 6-7:30 PM Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the Brooks & White Chapel and other times at the home.
Funeral service will be 2 PM Sunday, May 19, 2019 at the Salem United Methodist Church with the Rev. Renée Burnette officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
