Cheser Bowen Mead was born to Fannie Margaret Cheser and Louie Bowen Mead on February 2nd of 1915 in Amarillo, Potter County Texas.

He was the eldest of three children born to this couple.

He was walking in town with his friend, Virgie (Find-A-Grave Memorial# 19270207), and laid eyes on Katherine Elizabeth Doss and declared that he was going to marry her. Katherine made friends with Virgie and was new to town. When Katherine and Virgie were walking the next day, Katherine told Virgie that she wanted to know who that handsome man across the street was and declared that she was going to marry him. Virgie turned and told her "That's the same thing he said about you." and the rest is beloved history.

He married Katherine Elizabeth Doss in June of 1939, having been married at the Palisades in Texas.

The couple produced one child, Marion Nancy Mead.

He was a hardworking man in the construction field, having been a brick layer for many years, before becoming a janitor at the Amarillo School Administration Building.

One day, he had come home and told Katherine that he was hurting. Never being a man to complain a day in his life, Katherine was naturally concerned. As it turned out, Cheser was suffering from testicular cancer and he died a short time later on June 11th of 1994.

He was a good man, loved by all who knew him.

I have many fond memories of sitting with him in his room with the worn wooden floorboards, listening to his record collection and spending time with him.

I also recall getting up each morning to make him a glass of Carnation Instant Breakfast to take to him first thing and telling him how much I loved my Papa.

He was a man that enjoyed the good things in life, doughnuts, ice cream and television.

He was particularly fond of Professional Wrestling.

He died as he lived, a loved and loving man.
