Iris M. "Jimmie" Wilson died Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Sonny Kelley in Jasper, Texas.
A native and lifelong resident of Holly Springs, Jimmie was born Iris Marie Jefferson on February 5, 1927 to John Solomon Jefferson and Stella Adams Jefferson. She graduated from Jasper High School.
On May 11, 1946, Jimmie married Molton Marcell "Jake" Wilson, a union that endured 53 years, until his death in 1999. Jimmie and Jake celebrated their 75th Anniversary in Heaven on the day she died. At a time when women did not work outside the home, she had a successful career at First State Bank of Jasper, retiring in 1998 as a Note Department Teller. She was a lifelong member of Holly Springs Baptist Church.
A member of the Greatest Generation and beloved to all who knew her, Jimmie modeled kindness, generosity and self-reliance. After her husband died in 1999, she carried on as head of her family, living her faith, doting on her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and tending her garden. Among her many talents, she was an accomplished hostess and cook, with her specialty dishes such as gumbo, red velvet cake and coconut cream pie becoming requested family favorites.
In addition to her husband, Jimmie was preceded in death by her parents, John Solomon and Stella Adams Jefferson, two brothers, Jack Harold Jefferson and Bill Jefferson, two sisters Frances Stropp and Qunell Jefferson Thomas, daughter, Mary Marcell Wilson, son, Billy Jack "Butch" Wilson and granddaughter, Mary Wilson Bradley.
Jimmie is survived by her three daughters, Diane Etue and husband Larry Etue of Evadale, Texas, Linda Kelley and husband Sonny Kelley of Jasper and Susie Culver and husband Rick Culver of The Woodlands, as well as eight grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Holly Springs Baptist Church, 7396 U.S. Hwy 190 E, Jasper, Texas 75951.
