Obituary: Soldiers' Home.
Edson Cook, Aged Veteran, is Dead. Only Man in Home Who Lost Arm in Battle.
Edson A. Cook, 88, one of the oldest men in the Home, and the only man in the camp who had lost an arm in battle, died in the hospital at 4 p. m. Monday. He was admitted from Newton Falls, Trumbull Co. on December 5, 1918, and had twenty-three months' service in the civil war in Co. H, First Vermont cavalry, and Co. H, Thirty-seventh Mass. Inf. He drew a pension of $50 a month. His nearest relative is a second cousin, Benjamin F. Allen of Boston, Mass.
It is considered odd that among the hundreds of veterans in the Home, Cook was the only one who had lost an arm. There is one veteran here who lost a leg in the battle of Gettysburg.
