He was born and raised in The Bronx, and lived in East Orange and Marlboro before settling in Jackson in 2005. He was a longshoreman in Port Newark for 36 years. He was predeceased by his wife, Rosaria Stein; and sister, Rose Karsten. Surviving are three sons, Charles Stein, Jr. and his wife, Paula of Indiana, Steven Stein and his wife, Dona of Howell, and Bruce Stein and his wife, Patti of Marlboro; grandchildren, Kellin Stein, Emmitt Stein, Christopher Stein and his wife, Rachel, Stephanie Cunliffe and her husband, Zachary, Amanda Stein and Cory Stein; great grandchildren, Jaxon, Lucas and Ivy; and sister, MaryLou Scarborough.
