Les was born on April 25, 1925, to Harvey and Estella Todd in Lodi. He attended local schools, graduating from Lodi Union High School in 1943. It was there that he met Bettie and the high school sweethearts were married April 12, 1946. After spending time in the Army Air Force, at UC Davis, and in Yuma, Arizona, they returned to Lodi in 1950 where they raised their two sons, Ken and Tom, and their daughter Toni.
Bettie and Les truly enjoyed camping and traveling, and have visited almost every state in the Union in a succession of travel trailers and motorhomes on annual family vacations and just the two of them later in life.
Les was an avid horticulturist and was especially fond of California native plants. In Lodi, Les contributed to the Japanese Garden and San Joaquin County Historical Society’s Sunshine Trail at Micke Grove Park. In Santa Cruz County, Les worked many years with the California State Parks system propagating native plants to restore sand dunes at Sunset State Beach and contributing to the native plant landscaping of Manresa Uplands Campground.
Les is survived by his son Ken and wife Jennifer of Santa Clara, his son Tom and wife Geri of Chico, and his daughter Toni of Lodi.
