Mr. Strider was born in Randolph County on April 12, 1930 to Andrew and Estelle Callicutt Strider. John served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from Centel Telephone and was a member of Hopewell Friends Meeting. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Strider, and 9 brothers and sisters. John loved to travel. He volunteered with many organizations including Habitat for Humanity and The NC Friends Disaster Service. John was an avid farmer and cattleman and was a member of the Randolph Livestock Association for many years.
He is survived by his daughters, Elaine McPherson and Renee Varner both of Asheboro; grandchildren, Eric McPherson and wife Karla of Asheboro, Amy McPherson of San Francisco, CA, Zeke Harris of San Francisco, CA, Catherine Britt and husband David Britt of Asheboro; great grandchildren, Kylie, Kaiden, and Kinsley; and many other great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 16, 2019 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1:00 pm at Hopewell Friends Meeting, 2244 Hopewell Friends Road in Asheboro with Rev. Mike Butler and Rev. Ricky Sessoms officiating. Burial will follow in the meeting cemetery with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
