Life Facts on Darrell Jerome Wilson 1927 – 2019 / Age 71 years 11 months

Darrell Jerome Wilson was born on June 6, 1927 in Willows, California to Edgar and Mae (Roberts) Wilson. He was their only child. He passed away May 8, 2019. At a young age, he learned to fix his own breakfast and get to school on his own as both parents worked. He loved school and talked about different school activities most of his life. Although he had a short stature, he still excelled in everything he tried to do. He was in football and earned his Block “W” with 3 years of Varsity Football, he was also on 2 Championship basket ball teams, was 2 years in 115 lb boxing champion, and set 2 records in track and broad jump, and did pole vaulting with success. After graduation he was on the baseball town team and several other town teams.

His Jobs include:

Frozen Ice cream at the Capital Dairy in High School

Bob Renaud running harvester and tractor

Then to Baker Brothers in Artois for 40 years in Ranching and Farming

Wilbur Ellis (Ord Bend Plant) liquid fertilizer for almost 20 years

Pete Knight Farms for a short while.

He retired at the age of 80.

He married Marjorie (Panter) Lacroix in 1979. They have been married for 40 years.

Darrell took several hunting trips with his John Taylor friends to Montana. Then he and his wife Marjorie went on a 5 state camping trip several years ago. They have also been to Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico and trips to visit children.

The favorite camping spot for the 4th of July weeks were up in the mountains above Elk Creek called Nye Camp. All of his old friends, hunting buddies and a lot of relatives would gather there with tents, trailers etc. and have quite a time. It was a camp out that they all looked forward to. For the past several years, his children took up this holiday as well and joined him just like when they were children. They remembered the memories. As Darrell got older the kids looked after him while camping and made sure that he would not stumble and hurt himself. He always came home healthy, dirty and happy. He made his last trip to his beloved mountains in 2016 due to health reasons. His main hobby was golf and he would play as much as he could. He also loved to fish. Over the years on several hunting trips he came home with several trophy bucks. Darrell was quite handy in making children's wooden toys, he tied flies for fishing, and could fix anything you gave him to fix. He had a keen mind and loved to read. After his retiring he took up Oil Painting. All the children and grandchildren have a painting of his somewhere on their wall.

After retiring in 2010, he would help his wife with her Day Care business and they all loved “grampa Darrell”. They have had over 50 children come through the doors of Nana's Day Care. He had many friends and enjoyed life with a hearty infectious laugh and sense of humor.

When in his late 80's Darrell would lose his balance and fall a lot, but the WFD would be right there to pick him up. In 2017 he was sent to Enloe hospital due to a cracked skull. From there he went to a nursing home where he fell and broke his hips after four months of being there, which then sent him to the hospital again. He was in the hospital for over a month and they sent him to a care home in Sacramento. He lived there for almost two years and was sent to Riverside Care home in Chico. He was there for less then a month and became very weak. He was in the hospital for a short while then went back to the care home but 48 hours later he passed away on May 8, 2019, just a month short of his 92nd birthday.

He was loved by all.

Survivors include his wife Marjorie of 40 years,

His children; Cindy (Jeff) Kalesh from Georgia, Julie Wilson from Merced, Jim Wilson from Chico, Patty Wilson/Olds from Merced,

Step childred; Linda Lacroix/Meaney from Arizona, Teresa (Matthew) Oliver from Sonora, and Eddie (Alyssa) Lacroix from Folsom.

He has 4 grandchildren, 11 step grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and 19 step great grandchildren. They all love and adore him as he was a very adoring grampa.

At his request, Darrell will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at the Orland Odd Fellows Cemetery on County Road P on June 7, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. His request was to be buried at the foot of his beloved Dad. There will be a reception after the service, which will be announced there.
