Dorothy Lorene Lambert, 98, of Independence, MO, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2019. A visitation will be held from 9-10am on Monday, May 20, 2019 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington, Independence, MO 64050. Funeral service to follow at 10am. Burial will be private at St. Joseph Memorial Park Cemetery. Dorothy was the only child born to Richard and Noree (White) Hane on June 30, 1920 in St. Joseph, MO. After high school, Dorothy took a job working as the book keeper in her father’s autobody shop. It was there that Vincel Lambert first laid eyes on Dorothy, after wrecking his car. He took one look at Dorothy and from that moment on, her dad said that every time he opened the door, there was Vincel, waiting on Dorothy. About a year later, the two eloped and started their 68-year journey together on July 5, 1940. Dorothy and Vincel soon welcomed a daughter, Cheryl, and seven years later, another daughter, Marla. Dorothy was an excellent wife and mother and adored being both. She also worked outside the home, first as Inn Manager for Holiday Inn, a position she was particularly proud of and worked at for 35 years. Then in 1988, Dorothy started working as the receptionist at Carson Funeral Home, where she worked for 14 years before finally retiring in 2002. Dorothy and Vincel were members of the First Baptist Church in Independence since 1969, where Dorothy enjoyed singing hymns and teaching Sunday School classes. Dorothy had a beautiful singing voice and was also a gifted piano and organ player. She also wrote brilliant short stories for most of her life. Dorothy enjoyed a good, long life, filled with all the things she loved: gardening, reading, bird watching, nature, and her animals, “Oh, the animals”. Her grandchildren were a particularly bright spot in her life and she loved being with them as often as possible. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Marla Lambert; grandsons, Jason (Amy) Werges and Jared (Erin) Werges; granddaughters, Jamie (Matt) Cantrell Long and Dina Cantrell; and grandchildren, Charlie Long, Cameron Long, Michael Long, Paige Werges, Maddie Werges, Jonah Werges, and Jordan Werges. He is preceded in death by her husband, Vincel Lambert; her daughter, Cheryl Cantrell; her brother, Richard Charles Hane, Jr.; and both parents.
