Becky met her longtime companion Kerby in 1981 and together, they spent many years traveling the world. They enjoyed their retirement years, whether in Las Vegas, Biloxi or cruising the Caribbean. Becky was also an avid Florida Gator fan, and she and Kerby rarely missed a game in over thirty years. Becky was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend to many. She was extremely kindhearted, easygoing, and always saw the good in people. Her numerous nieces and nephews could always count on her unfailing love and support. Many times, she was their partner in crime as they could talk her into almost anything. Becky was very devoted to her sisters and brothers and they loved her dearly. After living in Jacksonville, where she was a member of Arlington United Methodist Church, Becky spent her last four years residing at Frank Wells Nursing Home. There, she enjoyed the companionship of her roommate Judy Barton. Judy was invaluable as Becky’s friend and we wish to thank her for her unfailing love and support. We could always count on her to tell us absolutely everything, while Judy and her family loved Becky as one of their own. The past few weeks saw a change in Becky’s health and her family sought the assistance of Community Hospice of Northeast Florida. She was able to remain in her familiar surroundings at Frank Wells Nursing Home, where she was loved and cared for by their wonderful staff.
Becky is survived by her sister Mary Olive Towers of Brooker, Florida, who will turn 100 years old on May 31st. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Jake Spires, her sister Elizabeth Waters and her brothers Bishop, W.M., Roland, Henry, Jesse and Bobby. Becky was also predeceased in 2015 by her longtime companion, Kerby Smith.
Becky will be laid to rest with graveside services at 11:00am on Wednesday, May 15th at New Hope Primitive Baptist Church in La Crosse, Florida. A gathering will immediately follow at the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida in Jacksonville.
