Mrs. Lucille Overby West, wife of the late John Luke West, passed away Monday, May 13, 2019, at the age of 86. She was born in Mecklenburg County on December 2, 1932, to the late Luddie Ambrose and Idenia Owen Overby. One of ten children, Lucille is survived by her brothers, Ray Overby of Arkansas and Larry Overby of Clarksville. She was predeceased by her sisters, Jane Yancey, Doris Jordan, Ruth Terrell, Mabel Thomas, Hilda Newton, and Ann Champion, as well as a brother, Edwin Overby. Gwen Yancey Talley and many other nieces and nephews also survive, as well as her much loved cat, "Kitty Boo". Lucille was lovingly cared for by Cheryl and Louis Newton for many years. Lucille was employed with Roses Department Store as Bookkeeper for 33 years before retiring in 1984. A life-long member of Buffalo Baptist Church, she taught Sunday School for many years in addition to sharing her love of singing as a member of the choir and with the Buffalo Baptist Quartet.

Funeral services for Mrs. West will be held at 3 P.M. on Thursday, May 16, in the chapel at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home with the Reverend Chet Bergeron officiating. Entombment will follow in Eternity Mausoleum at Oakhurst Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to a charity of your choice.
