Dorothy taught in the Wa-Nee Community Schools for over 20 years. For her first teaching assignment in 1949 in Nappanee she taught music in the elementary through the high school. Over the years, she was involved with many groups and activities including being a member of the Methodist Church, a former member of the Nappanee Library Board, an accompanist for Rotary and served as a class volunteer at Woodview Elementary, to name a few. Dorothy was known for cross-stitching Chrismons for family and friends. In their retirement years Dorothy and Doc took many bird watching trips and vacations to see family.
She is survived by her children, Jean (Henry) Barger, Keller, TX; Bruce (Wendy) Zimmerman, Hagerstown MD, granddaughters, Jennifer Barger Richburg (Tim), Stephanie Barger Harbich (Clay), Katie Zimmerman and Beth Zimmerman, great-grandchildren, Ella Richburg, Owen Richburg, Sarah Harbich and Haley Harbich
She was preceded in death by her husband, Doc, on May 22, 2013, her sister, Kathryn (Donald) Lambright and twin brother, Alva Ritter.
Family and friends may call from 6-8:00 p.m., Friday, May 17th at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m.. Saturday, May 18th at Nappanee United Methodist Church. Rev. Kevin Reed will officiate and burial will be in Leesburg Cemetery.
