Deacon Arthur "A.E." Edwards was born May 6, 1935 in Candler County, Georgia to Mr. Nathaniel Edwards and Ms. Corine Lightner. On Sunday, March 24, 2019, Deacon Edwards was called from labor to eternal rest to be with our Heavenly Father and Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

During his early years of life, Deacon Edwards received his education at the Smyrna School which is the current grounds of Steep Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Deacon Edwards was a Sharecropper who farmed his own land. He met the Love of his life, Ms. Carrie Bell Eason and the two became One on August 21, 1954. The Lord blessed their union for over sixty-four (64) years. IN later years, Deacon Edwards worked as an Assembly Line Worker for Thomas & Betts Corporation of Vidalia, Georgia. He retired after thirty-five (35) years of dedicated service.

Deacon Arthur Edwards accepted Christ and joined Steep Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Deacon Edwards was devoted to his position as Chairman of the Deacon Board, working with an equipping those who came behind him. He served as the Usher Ministry President for thirty-five (35) years. No matter what capacity he served in the church, he did it with faithfulness to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Deacon Edwards is preceded in death by his father, mother, one brother, Nathaniel "Junior" Edwards and one grandson, James "Bubba" Dinkins Edwards.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted wife, Mother Carrie Edwards; one daughter, Joann Edwards of Metter, GA; two sons, Reverend Mark Edwards (Rena) of Waco, TX, Minister Joe Wayne Edwards (Lorraine) of Atlanta, GA; two brothers, Johnnie Edwards and Marvin Edwards both of Metter, GA; three sisters, Naomi Ringwood of Connecticut, Bettye Sisctrunck of Philadelphia, PA, and Vera Davis of Delaware, PA; two brothers-in-law, Wilbert Eason (Katherine) of Woonsocket, RI, and Van Eason (Betty) of Alexandria, LA; seven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
