A welder in the construction industry for over 40 years, until his retirement in 1992, he was employed with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ highway department in bridge maintenance for 20 years. Mr. Nunes was also an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
An active Espirito Santo Church parishioner, he served as a Eucharistic minister, participated in prison ministry, and was also a longtime member, and past president of its Holy Name Society. John enjoyed recreational bicycle tours, and was an avid deep-sea fisherman.
He is survived by: four children, John M. Nunes, Jr. (wife Lucy) of Swansea, Jason Nunes of Coventry, RI, Rebecca St. Pierre (husband Edgar) of Venice, Florida, and Rachel DeBrum (late husband Horacio “Ray” DeBrum Jr) of Rehoboth; eight grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews. He was also a brother of the late Mary Clara Cabral, Emily Perry, Manuel, Joaquim, and Tony Nunes.
His Funeral will be held Wednesday at 10:00 am from Silva-Faria Funeral Home, 730 Bedford St, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be offered in Espirito Santo Church at 11:00. Committal Service and Interment to follow in St. Patrick Cemetery.
