Sarah Jane's husband, Thadeus, fought for the Confederacy during the Civil War. He was a private in Co. G, 14th [Neely's] Tennessee Cavalry Regiment. This was the same regiment, but different company as Sarah Jane's brother, Lieutenant Robert Jasper Strayhorn who was in Co.F/Co.C. Thadeus is listed on Roll M598-8 of Selected Records of the War Department Relating to Confederate Prisoners of War, 1861-1865. Records show that he was paroled at Jackson, Tennessee in the month of May, 1865, by Lt. Co. A. H. Steeley, Ass. Provost Marshal.
After the war, Thadeus became a physician. He and Sarah left Tennessee and brought their family to Johnson County, Texas, in about 1883.
