Jane Shavender (Robinson) Cantrell age 83 of Beaufort died on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.

Jane was born on March 16, 1936 in Beaufort, NC to Benjamin and Addie Mason Robinson. She graduated from Beaufort High School where she played the tuba in the high school band and was also on the basketball team. Jane’s favorite class was Home Economics. After graduation she attended business school in Florida and upon completion she returned to Beaufort and worked as a telephone operator.

One special call led her to the love of her life, Newman L. “Slim” Cantrell. Jane then followed him in his Coast Guard career to New London, Connecticut and Cape May, New Jersey. After returning home to Beaufort, she pursued a career in life Insurance sales. She loved helping families value the importance of security. She excelled in her field and was recognized as one of the best.

Jane was a lifelong member of Ann Street United Methodist Church. She was active in the church choir and was instrumental in beginning the hand bell choir. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, Beaufort Chapter 128.

Her love of travel and the performing arts led her to establish a travel club called, “Here We Go Again.”
The family would like to sincerely thank her many loving doctors, nurses and caregivers and Cindy, who was especially near to her heart.

Jane is survived by her children, David Allen of Beaufort, Addie Jo Rosser of Bristol, TN, Amy Elizabeth “Beth” Cantrell of Beaufort; and son Newman L. ‘Bon” Cantrell Jr. and his wife Christine of Boiling Spring Lakes; her grandchildren, Crystal Dawn, Leah Christine, Ashley Elizabeth, Leslie Allen, Elijah Joseph, Kaylie Lavoyne and Noah Sameual; her great-grandchildren, William Miller, Zoe Adell, John Mason and soon to be McKenna Rae; and her sassy, spoiled, little doggie Sophie.

In addition to her parents, Jane is preceded in death by her husband, Newman L. “Slim” Cantrell; a brother, George Robinson and his son William; a sister, Addie Lou; her "favorite son-in-law", John M. Rosser; and her best friend and travel partner Barbara Downum Willis.
