DUFFIELD, VA - Jack Kermit “Pete” Bowen, 84, Duffield, VA passed away, Monday, May 6, 2019 at his residence .

Pete was born in Duffield, VA on July 29, 1934, and was the son of the late Reece and Lakie (Fraley) Bowen.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, a Mason with Clinchport Lodge #267, Chief of the Duffield Volunteer Fire Department for several years, a member of the American Legion and Korean War Veterans Association, and the Lions Club. Pete was also a committee member and organizer for Duffield Daze.

In addition to his parents, his sisters, Emmer Rhoton and Susie B. Bowen; brothers, Clarence, Edmond, Claude, Ulyss (Jay), Porter, Omer, Emmitt, Bascom Slemp, Fred, Ballard Coy, Buck, Jake, Bill, Carl, and Reece, Jr. preceded him in death.

Surviving is his loving wife of 63 years, Joann Kaylor Bowen; daughters, Lynn Kistner (David) and Sharon Yvonne Lawwill (Steve); son, Mark A. (Tony) Bowen (Carmela); grandchildren, Brandi Jo Akers (Shannon), Jennifer Brewster (Brennan), Eli Jack Kistner, Lauren Bowen, Rachel Bowen Gwynn (Patrick); step granddaughter, Sheena Newell (Grif); great grandchildren, Logan, Lucinda and Desmond Brewster, Addison, Rozzalyn, and Abram Duke, and Lona and Mildred Gwynn; step great grandchildren, Jayden , Benjamyn, and Finn Newell; 3 sisters-in-law; 41 nieces and nephews; and approximately 99 great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Monday, May13, 2019 at the Gate City Funeral Home. A Masonic service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home by members of the Clinchport Lodge #267. Funeral services will follow with Rev. Darrell Fletcher officiating.

Military graveside services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at the Bowen Cemetery, Pattonsville, VA by the American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA, assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honors Team.

Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.

Donations can be made to the Duffield Volunteer Fire Department, 1326 Industrial Park Road, Duffield, VA 24244 or to the Bowen Cemetery in care of Joann Bowen, 1484 Pattonsville Road, Duffield, VA 24244.
