Hall of Fame Boxing Figure, Television Personality. After a long distinguished career as a professional boxing judge which earned him enshrinement in the International Boxing Hall of Fame (2016), he served as part of broadcasting team for" HBO's World Champion Boxing" contests from 1986 until his death. Born to a Jewish family, his father a pharmacist, took Harold to boxing matches during his youth which led to a fondness of the sport. Harold himself studied to become a pharmacist at Columbia University and following graduation, he served with the United States Army Reserves. In 1966, he began his lengthy association with boxing as a judge for amateur fights. One year later (1967), he attained his license from New York's State Athletic Commission to judge professional bouts. During the course of his career, he judged contests of such fighters as Emile Griffith, Roberto Duran, Muhammad Ali and Larry Homes. In 1986, he joined Jim Lampley and Larry Merchant as the unofficial judge of HBO's World Championship Boxing. He died from cancer.
