Anthony was a harness maker. His 1900 census records him as a railroad laborer. In his 1850 census, his father was recorded as being a hatter and a couple of his brothers, tailors. Then later his father was a court clerk.

He had been ill with chronic heart disease. He passed away at his home at 215 E. 8th in Peru. The informant was his wife, Catherine of the same address.
