Johnston City-Rick L. Smith, 62 passed away at 1:20 P.M. Wednesday May 8, 2019 at home with his wife, family, and friends by his side.

Services will be held at 7:00 P.M., Tuesday May 14, 2019, at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City with Pastor Don Colson officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Herrin Cemetery behind his parents. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children and Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Rick was born on April 29, 1957 the son of Donny and Shirley (McPheron) Smith

Rick was an underground coal miner, then ran and owned part of Predator Boats at Johnston City. He owned Ramlin Ricks Bar. B. Q. Wagon and Barbeque Sauce business. He was a heavy equipment operator at local mines. He loved fishing and motorcycle riding. He had a small motorcycle as a child and continued to ride until diagnosed with cancer.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca; father Don; sister, Vickey and husband David; son Matthew and wife Madelaine; granddaughter, Maelyn Smith; uncle, Larry McPheron and wife Kathy; step-son, Caleb Wall; step-daughter, Kearsten Wall; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and his puppy buddies, Dozer and Lucy.
He was preceded in death by his mother and all grandparents.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Southern Illinois for all of their help.
