In loving memory of Mr. Johnny Herman Nelson, age 69, of the Bearwallow section of Jewell Ridge passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at his home.
Born January 23, 1950, he was the son of the late Andrew Jackson and Mary Elie Nelson. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ronnie and Donnie Nelson; two sisters, Linda Varrone and Carmie Dominiak; one sister-in-law, Rhonda Nelson. He was a retired coal miner from Pittston Coal Company and was a member of the UMWA. He was a precious soul who would help any in need. He enjoyed hunting with his son and the outdoors was his favorite place to be.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 46 years, Mrs. Joyce Nelson; two children, Mr. Michael Johnny Nelson and wife Sharon of Jewell Ridge and Mrs. Christy Diane Nelson McGlothlin and husband Terry of Jewell Ridge; three grandchildren, Savanna Nelson of Bristol, VA, Emily McGlothlin and Anna McGlothlin both of Jewell Ridge; two brothers, Clyde Nelson and wife Carol of Jewell Ridge and Danny Nelson and nephew, Andrew Nelson of Cedar Bluff; five sisters, Ms. Carrie Kassay of Smithtown, NY, Ms. Thelma Sullivan of East Quogue, NY, Mrs. Ellen Meadows and husband Bobby of Jewell Ridge, Mrs. Brenda Lawson and husband Tom of Pounding Mill, Mrs. Barbara White and husband William of Richlands; many cousins, nieces, and nephews also remain.
The family will receive friends from 6 -9 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Bluff, VA.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 12 at the Singleton Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Winfred Keen and Bill Smith officiating. Burial will take place at the Nelson Family Cemetery on Bearwallow. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
