Ted attended Albany, NY public schools until winning a scholarship to the Albany Academy from which he graduated in 1941. He enrolled in Engineering at the University of Michigan, but left college in 1943 to enter the Army as an enlistee. During training, he contracted rheumatic fever which led to a medical discharge in 1945. In the same year, he married and returned to Ann Arbor where he completed requirements for a BS in Chemical Engineering and MS in 1947 from Michigan. For the next 2 years he worked at the GE Research Laboratories in Schenectady, NY as an Associate Chemist. With a NSF Fellowship, he completed requirements for a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1951. The family moved to Wilmington, DE that year when Ted took a position with the Central Research Dept. of the DuPont Co. Experimental Station. Ted joined 1st Unitarian Church in 1964, was active in Limestone Acres Maintenance Association, a Bridge Master, led Great Books discussion groups and sang with church choir and groups such as the "Interpreters". Ted earned a Master's degree in Counseling from University of Delaware in 1980, and provided counseling through the Tressler Center for several years. Retiring from DuPont in 1982, he continued to consult with DuPont until 1985, when he took a Visiting Scientist position at University of California Santa Barbara in the Inorganic Chemistry Dept. During this time he also provided consultation with Air Products Corp in Allentown PA, Applied Optics in Newark DE, and the Chemistry Dept. of the University of Delaware.
