Michael E. Geary, 80, of Hopewell Junction, NY formerly of Mahopac, NY, passed away on May 7, 2019, at Danbury Regional Hospice, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Geary was born on December 5, 1938 to the late, Maurice and Mary (Quinn) Geary in Tarrytown, NY. On October 11, 1970 he married the love of his life, Paula Harklerode in Yonkers, NY and together they were blessed with four loving children; Kerry, Brian, Timothy and Michael.
Mr. Geary proudly served our Country with the US Army. After the Army, he would continue to serve and protect by becoming part of New York’s finest men and women in blue, with the New York Police Department. Before, he retired in 1995; Michael earned the honor of becoming a Detective/Sgt., while working out of the 48 Precinct in the Bronx, NY. He was both admired and respected by all who knew and had the privilege of working beside him. After his retirement from the NYPD, he became the Head of Security for the Jefferson Valley Mall.
Although he dedicated his life to the NYPD and to the community of Jefferson Valley, NY, protecting them and making lifelong friends, it was his family that gave him his most joy and what he had lived for. Michael was a devoted husband, a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and a friend to many. His favorite past-time of all was being with his precious grandchildren and attending their many school and sporting events, where you could always hear him encouraging and cheering them on.
Michael is survived by his devoted wife of almost 49 years; Paula, his three loving children; Kerry (Wolfgang) Bischoff, Brian (Veronica) Geary and Timothy (Stephanie) Geary, his six cherished grandchildren; Christopher, Taylor, Michael, Julianna, Sierra and Cillian, all of whom he adored and each child held a very special place in his heart. He is also survived by his brothers; Edward and Maurice and his sister; Kathleen Pearson. He will now be joined in heaven with his son Michael, who had passed in 1997.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 10, 2019 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Cargain Funeral Homes, Inc., 418 Route Six, Mahopac, NY 10541. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Kateri Tekakwitha, 1982 Route 82, LaGrangeville, NY 12540. After Mass, Michael will be brought to his final resting place at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, in Hawthorne, NY.
