Barbara E. Cooney, age 82, of Sedalia, died Wednesday, May 8, 2019.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 13, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., with Prayers of the rosary beginning at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 12, at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel in Sedalia.

Barbara, Elise Cooney, 82, of Sedalia, died Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at Bothwell Regional Health Center.

Barbara was born in Sedalia during a severe snowstorm on January 13, 1937, to the late James Pierre and Eileen (O’Sullivan) Lamy. On November 26, 1960 at Sacred Heart Church in Sedalia, she married James Owen Cooney, who survives of the home.

Barbara was raised and educated in Sedalia and was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School. She also attended the University of Missouri and CMSU and graduated with a Master’s in English Literature. She taught at Smith-Cotton High School for several years before leaving to care for her elderly parents.

Barbara was the recipient of many awards. Her achievements, generosity and philanthropic works are well known. She was most proud of her 20 years of Camp Blue Sky.

Also surviving are two daughters, Carol Fischer (John) of Gravois Mills and Colleen Geihm (Jeff) of Aurora, IL; six grandchildren, Jennifer Fischer Rinella (Mike) of Kansas City, Kate Fischer Clune (Matthew) of Kansas City, Liz Fischer Schroeder (Greg) of Kansas City, Annie Fischer of Los Angeles, CA, James Cromley (Caitlin) of Tempe, AZ and Caitlin Cromley Farmer (Justin) of Aurora, IL; and 11 great-grandchildren, Jack , Josie and Anne Rinella, Birdie, Dylan and Ronan Clune, Will, John and Caroline Schroeder, and Calvin and James Cromley.

She was also preceded in death by her brother, Peter Lamy.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 13, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Mark Miller officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Rinella, Greg Schroeder, Matthew Clune, James Cromley, Jay Lamy and Joe Lamy. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 12, 2019 at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel. Prayers of the Rosary will begin at 7 p.m.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Sacred Heart Foundation, in care of McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
