Robert McDowell affectionally known by most as ‘”Bob” and/or “Uncle Bob,” was born June 30, 1934. He was preceded in death by his mother, Annie Laura Goins and his adoptive parents, Bert and Allean McDowell and son, Robert Anthony McDowell.

He was educated in the public schools of Birmingham, AL and upon graduating high school, was awarded a scholarship to Alabama A & M University in Huntsville, AL. After completing college, he moved his family to Chicago, IL. He worked as a Computer Programmer at Allstate, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, CNA Insurance Company and finally became a Systems Analyst.

After joining Sixth Grace Presbyterian Church, he sang in the choir, and was later ordained as the youngest Elder. He sang with the Community Renewal Chorus, traveling overseas on several tours. He later moved to Chattanooga and joined First Presbyterian Church and continued singing in the choir under the direction of Glenn Draper, and was ordained again as an Elder. In 2006, he moved to Peachtree City, GA and joined Carriage Lane Presbyterian Church in 2007. He was known to all as “Uncle Bob,” where he served as a faithful servant and became an Elder, sang in the Choir, and heading Wednesday night prayer service. Bob was a praying servant of God.

Robert McDowell leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Dorothy Clemons Bradley; two daughters, Cynthia V. (Tommy) Roberts of Peachtree City, GA and Patricia A. McDowell of Oakland, CA; two grandsons, Dr. David E. (Tenieshs) Myles and Dr. Steven R. (Kathy) Myles of Potamac, MD; five great-grandchildren, Charles Marshall, Lauren Marshall, Dawn Myles, Laila Myles and Nia Myles, all of Maryland; three sisters-in-laws, Sue Miller, Frances (Robert) Rice and Nannette Stamper, all of Chattanooga, TN, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be held Friday, May 10, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Carriage Lane Presbyterian Church with burial following at Westminster Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors from 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM at Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Peachtree City.
