John Osborn Mayer passed away on May 5, 2019 in Casper, WY.
John was born on May 17, 1940 in Omaha, NE, the only child of John and Mary " Betty" Mayer. The family moved to Casper, WY where he graduated from Natrona County High School, Casper College and the University of Wyoming. John married Carol Reckling in 1964 and the couple moved to the Washington DC area, and later lived near Philadelphia, PA. John served in the U.S. Army Reserve and completed his obligation. He worked in the aviation field for over 30 years, as a flight instructor, charter pilot, airmail pilot, and commercial airline pilot. He retired as a Captain with United Airlines on the B-737 and had logged more than 25,000 hours of flight time. John was a member of the Air Line Pilots Association and was proud that he had the opportunity to fly for Pan American World Airlines. In addition to his love of flying, he enjoyed restoring vintage cars, going to car shows, Casper College basketball games, and British mysteries. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Carol, and his daughters Jennifer Mayer (Peter Queal), Greeley,CO; and Leslie Valente (Nick),& grandchildren James and Ella, Cheyenne; and sister in law Nancy Reckling, Longmont, CO. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in his memory may choose the Natrona County Public Library Foundation or the Izaak Walton League, Casper Chapter. At John's request there is no formal funeral service but family and friends are invited to attend an open house at the Tate Pumphouse, 1775 West First Street, Casper on Thursday, May 23 between the hours of 12:00 and 2:00 pm.
