Married Gemima Langford in Spartanburg Co., South Carolina in 1812.

Moved first to Tennessee and then to Illinois. In 1834 Benjamin and his family, younger brother Elisha and his uncle Isaac's widow, left Illinois and moved to Red River Co., Texas. By 1836, Benjamin and his family were among the first settlers in Van Zandt Co., Texas.

Served in the army of the Republic of Texas.
