Marla graduated high school with the Mountain Grove Class of 1966. She then attended College of the Ozarks and graduated from Southwest Baptist University with a B.S. degree in education. She later received a Master’s degree in education from Drury University. Marla taught for over 35 years in Missouri and Arkansas schools.
Marla was united in marriage to Delmar Matthews February 21, 1975 in Newburg, Missouri. Together, they enjoyed camping and car races.
Marla was always active in her church.
Besides her parents, Marla was preceded in death her husband, Delmar Matthews and one sister, Mary Judy Harris.
Marla is survived by one son, Johnny Leroy Matthews and wife, Tracey, of Trezevant, Tennessee, six grandchildren, Cody Matthews of Jefferson City, Missouri, Johnny Matthews of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, James Matthews of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Heather Matthews of Jefferson City, Missouri, Jayden Matthews of Trezevant, Tennessee, and Jodi Matthews of DeWitt, Arkansas, one sister, Betty Harris of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and many other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
