Obituary for Richard "Dick" McMulin

Richard Arthur "Dick" McMulin, age 83, of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at his residence.
Visitation for Dick will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at the Winfield Funeral Home in Knoxville, beginning at 2:00 P.M. Dick's family will be present to greet relatives and friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.

A graveside service with military honors will be held on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at the Greenwood Cemetery in rural Knoxville.

Richard was born February 18, 1936 in rural Monroe County, Iowa. He was the son of Marion and Blanche (Roberts) McMulin. He was raised in Moravia and graduated from Moravia High School, where he lettered in baseball. After high school Dick served in the United States Army as a paratrooper in the later part of the Korean Conflict.

On August 19, 1961 in Knoxville, Richard and Alberta Mae McVey were united in marriage. They were blessed with almost 51 years of marriage and four children: Larry, Timothy, Jeannie, and Traci.

Dick worked for a short time for Maytag before working at the Knoxville V.A. Hospital. He started as an orderly and for many years worked in the Grounds and Transportation Department. Dick retired from the Hospital in the mid 1990's as a supervisor. Dick also drove a bulk milk truck for many years, and he enjoyed the outdoors, animals, and farming all his life.

Those left to cherish Dick's memory include his son, Larry (Kathy) McMulin of Bussey; two daughters, Jeannie McMulin of Des Moines, and Traci (Matthew) Hillestad of Omaha, Nebraska; five grandchildren, Andrew, Timothy, Virginia "Ginny", Audrey, and Tori; and his brother, Marvin McMulin of Des Moines.

Dick is preceded in death by his wife, Alberta McMulin; their son, Timothy McMulin; and his parents, Marion and Blanche (Roberts) McMulin.
