Julius Phillip Jackson passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at his home in Holtville, California of natural causes. He was married to the love of his life, Edith Jackson of Holtville for over 64 years and was father of four children, grandfather to 19, and great-grandfather to 19. His faith in God was known to all. JP, as he was known to his friends and family, began working for NCR in El Centro, California in 1954. After living and working for NCR in California, Arizona, Washington State, Montana, and Hawaii, he retired from NCR in 1985. JP then opened his own franchise and business in Imperial Valley where he worked until the month he passed away. JP and Edith were faithful leaders in the North Holtville Friends Church, where JP was an elder and song leader and Edith plays the piano. JP was born in Whitton, Arkansas on August 28, 1931. His father passed away when he was a small child, so he was raised by his mother and his much older brothers and sisters. He recounted the time in his young life that he worked in the field picking and "chopping cotton", given his own small bag to fill and paid a penny for each full bag. Hearing the other workers singing in the fields and being raised in the Whitton Baptist Church, he developed a great singing voice that would allow him to lead music in nearly every church he attended his entire life. His children were raised in church as well and fondly recall growing up, hearing his booming voice, his wife Edith's beautiful singing, and the piano also played by his wife, every Sunday. These memories are also carried by all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. JP is now singing praises to our Lord in heaven along with his mother Jennettie, father Robert Andrew, two sisters Wilma and Jenny, brothers Robert and Joel, son Michael William who preceded him in death. He leaves behind a brother John, wife Edith Mae Allen, sons James Phillip and James Smith, daughter Katherine Meyer, and many, many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and friends who described him this way on his last birthday: "You are a wonderful father. You have always put your family first and done whatever you could to give us comfort and security. We see you as a man of principle who stands up for what you believe. You are loved and respected by those who know you; admired by all; you are fun and you go out of your way to help others." We look forward to seeing you and singing praises with you in glory. Funeral was held on Friday, September 15, 2017 at the North Holtville Friends Church, 1595 Blodgett Rd. in Holtville, CA.
