BENNETT, Steve D. – of Birch Run, age 73, passed away after a prolonged illness, Thursday, May 2, 2019 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Funeral services will be held 4PM, Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Birch Run. Rev. Fr. Thomas McNamara officiating. Family will receive visitors at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2PM until the time of service at 4PM. Family will also receive visitors at the Morgan Funeral Home, 252 Montvue Drive, Lewisburg, West Virginia on Saturday, May 11, 2019 from 10AM until 12PM. Burial to follow in Adwell Cemetery, Ronceverte, West Virginia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center.
Steve was born July 19, 1945 in Caldwell, West Virginia to the late Leo and Hazel (Morgan) Bennett. He married Janet Warner on November 29, 1968 in Brighton, Michigan. Steve retired from CSX Railroad in 2005 with 40 years seniority as a Signal Foreman. He greatly enjoyed outdoor activities and was an avid hunter. He went on big game hunting trips to Montana and West Virginia with his sons and cousin, Mike Bennett. He generously used his handyman skills to help family and friends. Steve always made time for the grandchildren and was devoted to his family.
Surviving are: Wife of 50 years, Janet Bennett; Children: Teresa (Guy Allen) Brady of Charlotte, North Carolina, Timothy (Kerry) Bennett of Clio, and Daniel (Lynn) Bennett of Tecumseh, Michigan; Grandchildren: Jessica, Tyler, Amelia, Anna, Megan, Kaitlyn, and Virginia. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, D. Roscoe Bennett and Delmar Bennett. Janet would like to express gratitude to son, Tim Bennett and the rest of Steve’s immediate family that were present during his final months.
