Obituary

Judy passed away May 1, 2019, after returning to the home she loved from her recent rehabilitation.

Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Bob" Norton and is survived by her brother, Harold Scott and his wife, Betsy of Kansas City, Missouri; her daughter and son, Paula Irion of Waxahachie, Texas and Eric Bird of Dallas. She is also survived by five grandchildren that she loved and who will miss her dearly, Kasey, Kyle, Nick, Katharine and Christopher; and three great-grandchildren who were her regular IHOP buddies, Mason, Evie and Eli.

Judy was born October 27, 1938 in Kansas City, Missouri. She graduated from Southeast High in Kansas City in 1954. Soon after graduation, she married Ron Bird and after living for a time in Norfolk Virginia, returned to the Kansas City area where she had her two children Paula and Eric. She worked several years for Sears Roebuck and had wonderful friends there through the years. She divorced in 1972 and re-married Robert "Bob" Norton until his death in 1996. With Bob, she relocated from Kansas City to DeSoto, Texas. They lived in DeSoto for the next 20 years.

While Judy was living in DeSoto, she found her beloved church home in Hillcrest Baptist Church and was an active member for the next 35+ years. She participated in several ministries of the church and loved her Sunday school group dearly.

While living in DeSoto, she began working in the insurance industry, for a couple that would become her great friends Loy and Jolette McHargue. Judy retired from the insurance industry but could not stay idle. After her own bout with cancer in the late 80's, Judy began to volunteer at the cancer center and then went back to work full time at her church home and served as Pastor Mike Simmons Administrative Assistant for over 10 years. Even after her retirement(s) Judy continued to volunteer, visiting retirement communities and helping with hospitality for events at Hillcrest.

The past year had been a challenge for Judy, breaking both hips and an unexpected hospital visit, but she was a determined woman, and fought through recovery to return to the home she loved. Judy was a faithful, devout Christian and Baptist, who loved her Lord and her family, and demonstrated to those she met, her love and the love of her Lord.

Visitation with the family is from 2:00pm - 3:00pm, Thursday, May 9, 2019, at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 265 W. Pleasant Run Rd, Cedar Hill, TX. Funeral services are 3:00pm, Thursday, May 9, 2019, at Hillcrest Baptist Church, Cedar Hill, TX.

Memorial contributions may be given in Judy's memory to Hillcrest Baptist Church, Cedar Hill, TX.
