BLOOMINGTON - Marvin Daniel “Dan” Burns age 83 of Bloomington, IL, passed away at 1:20 PM on Friday, May 3, 2019 at Meadows Mennonite Nursing Home, Chenoa, IL. Visitation will be 5:00 PM-7:00 PM Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at Beck Memorial Home, Bloomington, IL. His graveside service will be 10:30 AM Thursday, Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Bloomington, IL. Rev. Todd Harrison will officiate. Military rites will be accorded at the cemetery by the Bloomington-Normal American Legion Honor Guard. The family suggests memorials be made to the Bible Baptist Church 804 Four Seasons Road, Bloomington, IL.
Dan was born October 18, 1935 in Bloomington, IL the son of Marvin W. and Vera Scranton Burns. He married Virginia J. Summers on July 7, 1956 in Bloomington, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are his 6 children, Tony Burns, Carol (Kenneth) Wilson, Laura (Mike) Miller, Robin (Andre) Perry, Michael Burns and Cheryl Christo; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Gerald Bicknell and 4 sisters, Beverly Vandervort, Marilyn Long, Janeva (Tony) Campbell and Delores (Randy) Hurley.
Dan is preceded in death by his parents; 1 son, Steven Burns ; 1 granddaughter; 1 sister, Joanna Scearce and 1 brother, Alex Girdler.
Dan had worked at the Eureka Williams Company, Bloomington, IL for 42 years and he owned and operated Burns Landscaping for 30 years. Dan served in the US Army in 1953 and was a 32nd degree mason. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and old cars.
