D L Allen bought the Douglas wharf and store.In 1850 he extended the wharf a hundred feet further out into the lake to accomodate increased shipping. In 1878 he moved into the new store on North Main Street (now Champlain Avenue). His son Frank W. Allen succeeded him at the store which later became Dave Erit's and then Gordon Lewis' store. The building more recently has been a funeral home operated by Hamilton and then Marvin.
In 1857-1859 he held the office of Town Supervisor.
