Florence Cooper, age 90, died peacefully in her home in Champaign, IL on Friday, May 3, 2019 surrounded by love.

Mrs. Cooper was born October 19, 1928 in Whiting, IN to Andrew and Anna (Kuntul) Herochik. She married Leonard Cooper on April 27, 1953 in Winchester, VA.

Mrs. Cooper supported her husband’s military career and took great pride in being the best housewife possible. In fact, when she was not taking care of her own home and family, she could often be found cooking, cleaning, or visiting with others, sharing whatever she had. Florence, lovingly called “Candy Nan” by her great-grandchildren or “Flo-Jo” (but never Flo!), was an avid baker and card player who never missed a game of Bingo. In her later years she was further known for her quick wit, determination and thrill for adventure which kept those around her on their toes.

Surviving are her two daughters Kari (Lee) Thompson of Ocala, FL and Lori Tisdale of Pensacola, FL; four grandchildren, Nichole (Scott) Summers of Champaign, IL, Shauna Linebaugh, Chelsi Tisdale, and Zachary Tisdale of Pensacola, FL; and three great-grandchildren Natalie and Landon Summers of Champaign, IL and Hunter Linebaugh of Pensacola, FL.

She has joined her husband Leonard Cooper; parents, Andrew and Anna Herochik; and eight siblings Anna Chester, Mike Herochik, Mary Strisko, Sue Roberts, John Herochik, Andrew Herochik, George Herochik, and Dorothy Gryzbowski.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 6, 2019 from 5:00 – 7:00pm at Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Dr. West, Savoy, IL. Burial will be at the Barrancas National Cemetery at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, FL.

Since Florence had an affinity for young children and feeding anyone she met, memorials can be made to Crisis Nursery (www.crisisnursery.net) in Urbana, IL and Daily Bread Soup Kitchen (dailybreadsoupkitchen.com) in Champaign, IL.

The family wishes to express a very special thanks to Bickford Cottage of Champaign as well as Transitions Hospice staff for all their loving care and support.

Online condolences may be offered at www.morganmemorialhome.com.
