Came from England with his parents in 1850, first going to Cleveland where he learned brick laying and brick making and eventually moved to Omaha in 1869. He was a contractor and builder in Omaha and built the Creighton block in 1875 and also the Millard Hotel. Owned 10 acres of land just west of Creighton and was on the Omaha City Council from 1885-1890

Mr. F. E. Bailey Dead.

Mr. Francis E. Bailey, of Omaha, Nebraska, father of Mrs. J.N. Manuel, died at the latter's home in this city on Tuesday night, February 7th, of kidney disease, complicated with organic troubles. He came to Lampasas December 10 to spend the winter with his daughter and hoping that a change of climate would prove beneficial, but he gradually grew worse and in defiance of medical skill and tender nursing he passed into the unknown hereafter about 8 o'clock.

Deceased was in his 66th year, an Englishman by birth, and came to the United States with his father's family fifty years ago, settling near Cincinnati, Ohio. From there he moved to Omaha, which has been his home for over thirty years, and where he was accounted a prominent and wealthy citizen.

He spent several months here last winter and made many pleasant acquaintances in Lampasas during his visit.

Funeral services were held at Mr. Manuel's residence yesterday morning at 8 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Dr. Cahill, Presbyterian minister, after which the body was shipped to Omaha, accompanied by his son Ross and the widowed mother.

Five children, Mrs. J. N. Manuel, of Lampasas, Mrs. Harry Countsman, of Omaha, and three sons, George and Frank Bailey, of Honey Creek, Iowa, and Ross, of Lampasas, mourn the loss of a loving and devoted father.

The Leader, in behalf of the people of Lampasas, tenders condolence to the stricken relatives.
