Rev. Luther Carver, age 79, of Summer Lane in Spruce Pine, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals in Asheville.

Born on June 23, 1939 in Avery County, he was the son of the late Earl Carver, Sr. and Stella Jones Carver. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son; Benji Carver; a daughter; Robin Carver Austin; a great granddaughter, Izzy Carver; a brother; Arnold Carver; and his brothers-in-law; Wayne Watts and Gerald Johnson.

Preacher Luther helped countless people throughout his ministry, he was the personification of; The Good Samaritan. During his ministry, he held several hundred revivals and camp meetings in Florida, the Carolinas, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Virginia, and West Virginia. He was a field representative for the Tri-State Children’s Home and supported missionaries all over the world. He had pastored Victory Chapel Baptist Church, Temple Baptist Church, he organized, chartered, built, and pastored Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, pastored River Valley Baptist Church, Elk Shoals Baptist Church, Timber Ridge Baptist Church, Elk Valley Baptist Church, and organized, chartered, and pastored Emmaus Road Baptist Church where he currently was serving as pastor. From 1968 until 1983, he was an owner/operator of Long Brothers Roofing and the owner/operator of Carver Roofing from 1984 until his retirement in 2014.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of fifty-seven years; Phyllis Pritchard Carver of the home; his sons; Rev. Tommy Carver and wife, Karen of Crossnore and David Carver and wife, Lorene of Linville Falls; his son-in-law, Larry Austin and wife, Ginny of Spruce Pine; his grandchildren; Shasta Smith and husband, Kent; Cameron Carver and wife, Deidra; Tiffany Carver; Lucas Carver and wife, Kim; Remington Austin and wife, Maggie; Maverick Austin, Marlee Austin, and Briley Austin; his great grandchildren; Jaxon Smith, Saylor Smith, Holland Austin, and Finn Carver; his brothers; Rev. Ralph Carver and wife, Geneva of Dallas, NC and Rev. Earl Carver, Jr. and wife, Teresa of Newland; and his sisters; Mary Watts and Betty Smith and husband, Jim of Dallas, NC and Minnie Johnson of Newland.

The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service for Rev. Luther Carver on Monday, May 6, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev’s. Tommy Carver, Remington Austin, and Derrick Wilson officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Sunday, May 5, 2019 beginning at 5:00 pm at the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev’s. Earl Carver, Jr. and Jimmy Logan officiating.
