Ronald “Ray” Gilbert, 81, of Princeville, passed away at 11:39 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria.

Ray was born on January 26, 1938 in Princeville the son of Basil and Wava (Carter) Gilbert. He married Sue Cunningham on March 13, 1960 in Princeville; she survives.

Also surviving are one son, Fred (Gale) Gilbert of Laura; one daughter, Raylene (Nick) Dipple of Princeville; three grandchildren, Adam (Ashley) Gilbert of Princeville, Stacey Bridson of St. Louis, MO, and Paige (Drew) Eads of Princeville; six great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mary Gilbert of Texas; and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ralph L. Gilbert.

Ray served in the United States Marine Corps. He was a farmer in the Princeville area, while also working as a mechanic at Bliss Implement for over 25 years, and he previously worked for the Peoria County Highway Department. Ray was a former board member for the Peoria County Farm Bureau and board member for the Monica Elevator for several years. He enjoyed hunting deer and traveling, especially to Ft. Myers Beach. He also loved his grandchildren and watching them play sports. He was a member of the Princeville Presbyterian Church.

His funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2019 at Haskell Funeral & Cremation Services in Princeville. Mike Martin will officiate. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2019 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens in Kewanee with military honors.
