Elwood Joseph Conrad, known to many as "Ike," passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at the age of 91.

Son of the late Elenore Haas and Michael Conrad, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Therese Conrad Casey, Mike Conrad, and George Conrad; his beloved wife, Evelyn Conrad; and his son-in-law, Clayton McDaniel.

Ike is survived by his daughters, Sheryl Ann Conrad (Brian Duffourc), Diana Conrad Reidell (Bob Reidell), and Brenda Conrad Rose (Ben Rose); grandchildren, Jason Steven Roper (Heather Roper), William Justin Guy (Natalie Guy), Selena Marie Wagner, and Anna Elizabeth Rose; great-grandchildren, Rachel Nicole Roper Hernandez (Luis Hernandez), Justin Michael Guy, Lucy Rose Guy, Mason Phillip Diaz, and Mia Louise Cartaginese; one great-great-grandchild, Landon Rome Hernandez; the mother of his daughters, Joyce Prima Ford; a dear family friend, Hal Ernest; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ike served his country as a proud member of the Army National Guard. He retired from protecting the city of New Orleans as a Sergeant with the New Orleans Police Department after over 21 years of service. He then became the head of security at the Hyatt Regency.

Ike had a special love for horses, and owned and trained them for over 60 years. He also loved food and to eat.

Most of all, however, he loved his family. He was a cherished brother, devoted husband, and caring patriarch to his family.

Ike was funny and fun-loving, and he never met a stranger. He was friendly and well-liked by everyone. Even through illness, he held a positive attitude and never complained.

Ike will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

The family wishes to thank the compassionate team at St. Anthony's Healthcare and Rehab, as well as Deacon Uriel Durr for their support and care during a difficult time.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to a visitation beginning at 9:00 am on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Dr., Metairie, LA 70001. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
