Daniel “Tick” Conley, age 60, passed away Tuesday morning, April 30, 2019 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. He was born on December 19, 1958 in Albia to James and Theresa (McGee) Conley.

He grew up and attended school in Albia, graduating from Albia High School with the class of 1978. He married Cindy Woodard on June 5, 1982 at the First Christian Church in Albia. They were blessed with one son, Scott.

Tick was a 3rd generation carpenter, owning and operating Conley Construction with his 2 brothers, Jim and Dennis. He was a skilled carpenter, his expertise was his attention to detail on all the finishing touches on the houses and buildings that you see throughout Albia.

Tick was one of a kind, and upon meeting him you would surely never forget him. He was a very hard working man, but when five o’clock came around it was time to find the nearest watering hole, which may be a tavern, Conley’s shop, buddy’s garage, or his beloved garden. His hobbies included: bowling, hunting, mushrooming, growing his tomatoes, grilling, and especially attending car shows where he showcased his “prized” 69’ red GTO Convertible. He enjoyed time spent with family and friends. Tick’s son was his pride and joy. He loved going to all of his sporting events and was very proud of all of his accomplishments. He took the time to pass his craftsmanship on to Scott through the many projects they worked on, and he truly cherished this time spent together. Tick's famous words were “If you’re gonna hoot with the owls in the evening, you better be ready to soar with the eagles in the morning” ~ a true follower of his own words.

He is survived by his son, Scott Conley and Brenna Sinnott of Albia; two brothers, Jim (Sandy) Conley of Albia, John (Marcia) Conley of Shawnee, Kansas. Tick is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Theresa, and brother, Dennis Conley.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia with Father Michael Volkmer C.PP.S. officiating. Burial will follow services in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, opening to the public at 1:00 p.m., and Tick’s family will be present to greet friends from 4-8 p.m., Friday evening at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia. There will be a time of sharing at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Knights of Columbus.
