Pioneer Auctioneer of Los Angeles, California. The son of Moses and Lucy Noyes of Massachusetts, Elipha Noyes came by sea to Northern California in 1852, and settled in Los Angeles in 1865. He was the first and for many years the only auctioneer in Los Angeles, connected with the sale of many real estate parcels in the early days. He was said to have sold the first lots in Santa Monica, Rancho Palos Verdes, Pomona and Artesia, and he was considered an expert on horses as well. At one time, he was also the agent for a steamship company in Wilmington. Husband of Lovina (Durfee Cubbage) Noyes, they married in Los Angeles in 1875. Father of Otis Wallace Noyes and Ruby (Noyes) Schmidt. He died one year after being struck by an automobile.
